How to type Nepali and English in the same sentence

By NepType project ·

Start with Nepali + EN mode

Choose Nepali + EN above the Roman input box. Write Nepali words with Roman letters; the pad keeps English words it recognizes. For example, ma school janchu gives you म and जान्छु in Nepali with school in English. You can use the browser pad without installing a keyboard.

Try a message before writing a paragraph

These messages cover school, photos, coffee and an exam reminder. Recognized English words stay in Roman letters. In the last example, pani becomes पनि by default. Check unfamiliar words: the pad may not recognize them as English.

Nepali + EN examples
Roman inputNepali output
ma school janchu.म school जान्छु।
yo photo ramro cha.यो photo राम्रो छ।
malai coffee man parcha.मलाई coffee मन पर्छ।
bholi exam cha.भोलि exam छ।
ma pani school janchu.म पनि school जान्छु।

Keep one word in Roman letters

An unfamiliar English word or a name may be converted even in mixed mode. Select that word in the Roman input or Nepali output and look at the suggestions. Choose its original Roman spelling to keep that occurrence unchanged. The original is available on each suggestion page. If you use the word again, check the later occurrence too: a choice is not a global replacement rule.

Correct a Nepali word without switching the whole sentence

Some Roman spellings have more than one Nepali reading. Select pani and choose पानी when you mean water, or पनि when you mean also. The choice applies to that occurrence; school or photo stays in English. To rewrite a phrase, edit the Roman input. The output box is read-only. Review your spelling choices again after a larger edit.

Leave an email address intact

Here, namaste changes script and me@example.com stays intact. The pad handles an email address differently from an ordinary word. Keep its letters unchanged and check the complete address before copying.

When to choose All Nepali

All Nepali writes English words in Nepali letters too. It does not translate an English sentence into Nepali. Check the phonetic spelling and correct it when needed. To keep school, photo or a person's name in Roman letters, use Nepali + EN. Select the original spelling for any word the pad guesses incorrectly.

Review and copy your final message

Check the meaning of the Nepali words, the English spellings, names and addresses. Use Copy text to paste the finished output into your message or document. Save drafts in your own app before closing or reloading the page; the editor does not save documents. Conversion runs on your device after the engine loads. Website analytics does not collect the text you type.

  1. Choose Nepali + EN and write one sentence.
  2. Select ambiguous words and keep original spellings where needed.
  3. Check names, addresses and the meaning of the Nepali text.
  4. Copy the finished output and save it in your own app.

If a suggestion looks wrong

Dictionary updates can change these suggestions. Choose another spelling if a word looks wrong. To report a problem through the project, include an example that reproduces it.
