Nepali typing questions, answered.
How does NepType work?
Type Roman letters in the pad. NepType suggests Nepali spellings, then you copy the result.
Can I keep English words?
Yes. Nepali + EN keeps recognized English words. You can also choose the original spelling.
Does it work offline?
The Mac app works offline. The browser tool needs a connection to open and load its dictionary; typing then runs locally. Reloading needs a connection. Neither typing pad needs an account.
Is English to Nepali typing the same as translation?
No. NepType changes Romanized Nepali into Devanagari: namaste becomes नमस्ते. It does not translate the meaning of English sentences.
Is the output Nepali Unicode?
Yes. Copy the Unicode Nepali text into a message or document. NepType does not convert legacy Preeti documents.
Can I use the tool on a phone?
Use the browser typing pad on a phone or computer. Native iPhone and Android keyboards are still in development.
Will my draft be saved?
No. Copy text you want to keep before closing or reloading the page.
Can I type directly in other apps?
The Mac pad uses copy and paste. System keyboard support is still in development.
What if a word is wrong?
Select another spelling from the suggestions, or keep your original word. Names and ambiguous words may need a correction.
